What to Expect?

Its silver domes were shining against the waters surrounding it. A colourful band of light floated below the dome. This relatively new mosque is primarily built of smoke coloured glass and steel.

The uniqueness of the mosque comes from its interesting exterior. The mosque is coated with steel, glass and crystal which are the three main materials in the development of this magnificent piece of architecture which gave it its name. Its sleek and modern look is reflected off the river surrounding the mosque. The illumination from inside the mosque also makes it look like the glass domes are shining.

During the daytime, the smoke coloured glass looks as if it’s coated with gold.

At night, the glass was shining as it reflected the dim moonlight, even though it is no longer open for interior visit in the evening.

Inside the mosque, huge crystal chandeliers hang just below the domes, justifying the name of the mosque. The Mihrab is in yellow on white has some intriguing calligraphy all around it. In fact visitors can see calligraphy around the doors and glass at the bottom of the mosque structure.

Corridor leading to the mosque and the corridor behind it has nice latticework in white, something that's commonly associate with Islamic architecture. This was one of the rare modern looking mosques that one has to see, and it was quite a refreshing feeling to have visited one.

The Crystal Mosque is able to accommodate up to 1,500 worshippers at a given time and also made its name internationally for its beauty.

Since the mosque is built right by the sea, visitors can also take a cruise to tour the mosque through the TTI River Cruise. Check their website for ticket info.

I didn't go inside, but the restroom was clean and well managed. Wide parking area free of charge. Also, it is located nearby the sea (or river?) and has its artistic architecture (and lighting; where the lights are changing colors at nights). Quite nice to visit.
