Introduction
Out of more than 20 Ipoh cave temples, Perak Cave Temple is the most well-known for its marvelous architecture and hilltop views. Visitors can climb to the hilltop pavilion to get a stunning view of Ipoh town.
What to Expect?
Founded in 1926, the Perak Tong Cave Temple is arguably one of Ipoh’s most popular attractions. The cave sits at the foot of a 120m-high limestone outcropping and was discovered by Chong Sen Yee and his wife, who came to Malaya from Jiaoling, China. Over the next 50 years, the couple worked laboriously to transform it into a beautiful place of worship.
Visitors will be greeted by an impressive red and white facade, set amidst a backdrop of hills and lush greenery. Inside, a 15m-tall Buddha statue sits in the main prayer hall, surrounded by four guardian deities. One of the temple’s most distinctive features is the colourful hand-painted frescoes, depicting Buddhist deities and mythical creatures such as dragons and phoenixes alongside scripture calligraphy.
If you’re up to some physical activity, climb a narrow staircase of 358 steps to reach a garden, a pavilion and a vantage point with breath-taking views of the valley below. The steep and narrow staircase takes approximately 400-500 steps. Hiking shoes or sneakers are advisable. And while kids may attempt the climb, do watch them carefully.

in the last weekFree of charges. If u are buddhist i guess u can pray here. There are stairs to climb up the cave and the stairs are very steep. If u can make it to the top the view is beautiful. Make sure u wear sport shoes to climb up and proper attire also.

2 weeks agoAbsolutely worth the trip. Like all other temples also this one is free.
I suggest going early in the morning (I went at 9.30) to avoid going to the top under the hot sun at noon. Climb time is from 9:00 to 16:00. The cave itself is beautiful and filled with majestic statues. In the back of the cave you will find steps that lead to the top of the limestone rock. It is a 15 minutes walk to the top but it’s totally worth the effort. Up there you will have the best view over the surrounding area.
I think that usually an hour would be enough, but I spent almost 2 hours there. I’ve explored every single path, chilled on the top for at least 15 minutes and talked with a friendly Japanese couple. -

a month agoPeaceful temple and surrounding area. The climb to the top was easy. Views was nothing to shout about. You can only imagine it would have been a great view prior to the constructions and pollution. It wasn't the cleanest and well kept at the top.

2 weeks agoAlthough I am Buddhist, I don't prefer the natural cave is used as religious worship place.
The cave should be kept in original condition for nature lovers and observers for educational purpose.
