A gallery museum that exhibits about Chinese Ming Dynasty admiral, Cheng Ho (Zheng He). Located in a warehouse to the north of the Melaka River, believed to be built by Cheng Ho about 600 years ago, the gallery has exhibits on the admiral’s life.

What to Expect?
Cheng Ho Culture Museum is believed to be a restructured ancient building with Ming architecture, with two to three hundred years of history. The famous Cheng Ho is the Ming Dynasty Admiral who has visited Malacca many times while en route to the Western Ocean from 1405-1433.
It is believed that he has set up a huge warehouse complex along the northern side of Malacca River. To date, there has been dispute in the location of the warehouse complex, while some believed to be at Bukit Cina. Nevertheless, the museum showcases many evidence of cultural exchange between the local ethnic and the Chinese, among others, treasure ships, tea houses and other navigation instruments.
The museum mainly exhibits the life of Zheng He and his world voyage in his fleets. It displays his travel with big pictures of Chinese history. The museum can roughly be divided into several sections:
1. Old Melaka Village
2. Ship Gallery
3. Treasure Ship
4. Antique Gallery
5. Garden Courtyard
The museum building is divided into three levels. It occupies 8 units of old shop houses and covers a total floor area of 5,110 m2. Some of the shops were built before 1786. A drum and a bell tower are located in front of the museum.

The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is a museum dedicated to the great mariner, Cheng Ho, and famous voyages. Broadly, the museum is divided into a biographical section of the life of Cheng Ho, and the remainder to his voyages. The museum goes into great details about the voyages, the organisation of the ships, the planning and control of the fleet and the legacy left behind by the voyages. There are hundreds and possibly thousands of artefacts, some of which are very high quality. This is probably the best museum in Malacca and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone interested in history. -

a year agoA very educational private collection about the history of chinas Admiral Chen Ho and his contributions to Malacca. The level of valuable information is significant and of great interest to any historically interested persons. It however a lot of Reading and with this some time to spend there is recommended. It’s not a ‚look‘ type of museum. But a great collection of facts and data, very compact and presented in Chinese and English! Enjoy your visit!
