What to Expect?

Sungai Chiling Fish Sanctuary is located 90KM from Kuala Lumpur city center and 13KM from Kuala Kubu Bharu town. It's at the foothills of Fraser's Hill and about an hour trip from KL City Centre.

It is a fisheries research project run by the Selangor Fisheries Department. This place is under their management and will be closed on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The river was gazetted as a nature park and fish sanctuary to preserve a local species of mahseer (green 'Kelah'). Access is by a small entrance with an arch along the trunk road to Fraser's Hill, immediately after the steel bridge. There is a small clearing for parking vehicles, but do not display any items of value on the seat or dashboard.

Chiling Waterfalls is the key attraction of the place. Often hailed as Selangor’s most beautiful waterfall, Chiling Waterfall is located in the reserve, is one of the most beautiful and spectacle waterfall in Selangor. The waterfalls are composed of three separate vertical waterfalls. To get here, you have to walk following a trek for about 40-45 minutes. The trek is easy and you will cross the river 5 times (bring dry pack to keep your phones and keys safe) before you reach at the waterfall and enjoy the nature while walking.

For the nature lover, a trekking expedition to Sungai Chiling or Chiling River, which can last for four to five hours, is just a great escape from the city. The flora and fauna, chill water and fresh air are going to put you into high spirits. The trekking along and across the river and hiking should be a great stress reliever too.

Admission fee is RM 1 and upon entry you will be asked to pay a deposit or RM 3 per plastic bags or bottles you bring at the Ranger Station. Make sure you bring back the item when you are going out to get the deposit back. The sanctuary is open from 8 am to 6 pm. But you cannot go the waterfall after 3 pm.

only open on Saturday & Sunday.
Do not come around 9am - 12noon as the waterfall is too crowded. I would suggest you come at 1pm.

It's refreshing and easy to walk into the fish sanctuary as you are walking on mostly flat muddy ground. There are streams and mini waterfalls on the right-hand side during the journey. Nice to stop over for a look and photography. It took less than 10 minutes to reach the point where you need to register your entrance. It was really a sight to be wowed as you approached the river side.....so many fishes swimming around and amongst the people! These fishes of mainly the 'kelah' varieties are not afraid of the people around. They were swimming around our legs as we were feeding them. The river here is not deep, so it is safe to swim and play, even for children. But, depending on the weather of that day.....especially rainy days are not allowed. This place is only open on weekends and closed at 5.00pm. You are not allowed to go into the waterfall area after 2.00pm.

2 km trail to the waterfall. Beautiful view. But be careful when crossing the river (slippery mossy rocks). Use the ropes provided. First u must register how many people are with you. You can bring food but only until the registration area. Bag inspection were done before u can cross the river via a "hanging bridge". Smoking and vaping were not allowed.
I wish there were signs about the place rules at the very start. Feel bad for the parents who does the heavy lifting carrying all sorts of food. My advice is when arrived, find a spot to put your foods/ to picnic and then register. Don't take a lot of space because this is a public recreation area. Be mindful towards others. Or you can just enjoy the river stream at the registration area. U can still get surrounded by fishes here. Recommended to wear water sport shoes.

The location is excellent for a family picnic, and I'm excited to get there a second time, but sadly, it's closed. Only a banner like this was posted outside the main entrance as an official notice by the management. I definitely need prior announcements before travelling this far to this place. I hope the management can fix this by posting on social media, etc.
