Introduction

The less known and less crowded beach to the nearby Morib beach, Kelanang beach is not your idyllic tropical beach but it is a laid back and relaxing place to enjoy fresh sea breezes and feel sand between your toes, even if the sand is of the brown and muddy variety.

What to Expect?

Located in Banting, Pantai Kelanang is one of the closest beaches to Kuala Lumpur it is not that well known and less visited than its near neighbour, Morib Beach.

The coastline here, 7km away from Morib, is fringed with pine trees (casuarina) and mangroves. The trees provide good shady spots for picnics and camping.

There are facilities like public toilet and food stalls near the beach, as well as a children playground.

The beach gets popular at weekends but if you go on a weekday outside of the school holidays you might find you have the place to yourself. The downside of going on a weekday is that the facilities such as toilets might be padlocked and the food stalls and beach item shops may not be open.

The sea is a rather murky brown colour on low tide, but the better time to visit would be during the higher tide in the evening. It is natural for the coastline on this stretch of the Strait of Malacca to be brown as the mouth of the Langat River.

Low Tide:

High Tide

Wild monkeys are seen loitering in the area so beware of your belonging especially if you are bringing food for picnic.

There is a large car park in front of the beach so parking should not be a problem.

There is also a campsite nearby that you can set up your tent to spend overnight. Please do note that the beach is a little secluded so we don't recommend staying until late into the evening.

Once you are here, you may consider visiting the other beaches nearby - The New Morib Beach and the Morib Beach.

Nice spot to watch the sea. The beach is pretty narrow but decent enough.

Appears to be a very popular camping spot for families. There’s a public toilet right beside with shower facilities so that’s a plus.

A more secluded beach BUT the Public Toilets are LOCKED... This will be bad as there are not facilities nearby I mean or 5km + to clean or dry oneself.
Place is ok and looks clean, less ppl as well.

    Good food!!

Got sushi, it was better than expected. Also some fried chicken and air kelapa + blue lemon.

The sushi with the little egg sauce art on it is my fav!

It's a nice spot for picnic.

A lot of stalls and there's a food court but it isn't overbearing till you can't see the sand or the sea.

There was a karaoke session when we were there so it was quite merry.

A short 10 minutes drive from Jugra Insitu Museum.

This is a beautiful beach hidden in Kampung.

Unfortunately, the beach is dirty. Many food rubbish there.

There is one row of shop, mainly are not open.

I took the small road on the left hand site, and ride it to Morib. Weekend there are some locals fishing there.
